GBIS Grant Scheme Eligibility
Understanding the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a government initiative designed to help reduce home energy bills by providing support for installing insulation. The scheme aims to enhance energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and improve home comfort. Understanding GBIS grant scheme eligibility criteria is crucial for homeowners, landlords, and tenants interested in taking advantage of the benefits.
Eligibility Criteria for GBIS
To be eligible for the GBIS, your property must meet specific criteria:
Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Rating:
Properties with an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G are eligible. You can check your EPC rating here.
Council Tax Bands:
• In England, properties in Council Tax bands A-D qualify.
• In Wales, properties in Council Tax bands A-E are eligible.

Savings On Your Energy Bills
Insulate your home and reduce heat loss through your walls, floor, and roof.

A home will lose heat through the walls 35%, floor 15%, and roof 25%, with the other 25% lost through areas such as windows and doors. When temperatures are lower or the wind is stronger, more heat is lost. This is why it is important to insulate your home to protect you and your family from cold in the UK climate.
Average estimated heat loss from a poorly insulated home in the UK
Warmer
A well-insulated home retains more heat. This means that your home stays warmer for longer, and you need to use less heating. This results in savings on your energy bills.
Cleaner
A well-insulated home with proper ventilation creates cleaner air quality, helping with respiratory health conditions and improving overall health.
Quieter
A well-insulated home helps to soundproof your home, creating a more calming and quieter environment.
Types of Insulation Covered
You can receive several measures to help reduce heat loss in your home. This results in a more comfortable environment and lower energy bills.
• Cavity Wall Insulation: Filling the gaps between walls to reduce heat loss.
• Internal Wall Insulation: Insulating the internal walls to reduce heat loss.
• Loft Insulation: Insulating loft spaces to prevent heat from escaping through the roof.
• Floor Insulation: Insulating floors to reduce heat loss through the ground.
• Room-in-Roof Insulation: Insulating rooms that are directly under the roof.
